Gifted Programming for Grades 4 and 5

All gifted fourth and fifth grade students are included in a self-contained G/T classroom. The students in this class are instructed in math from the Everyday Math program, but are, generally, advanced by one year. The fourth grade students are taught the fifth grade math and the fifth grade students are taught the sixth grade math. There are additional opportunities for advancement when necessary. For Language Arts, we use a variety of resources to meet the exceptional needs of these students. For reading, texts and strategies are explored from Houghton Mifflin, Junior Great Books, and challenging novels. Every year, we have also studied William Shakespeare and performed one of his works for the school and parents. I instruct the students in writing from Lucy Calkins' Units of Study. Please contact me with any further questions about our program.

 Gifted Programming for Grades K-3

In the Classroom

All primary students who are identified as gifted receive appropriate instruction within their classrooms. I have the opportunity to work with the classroom teachers to ensure that students are being challenged through content acceleration or compacting, as needed. We use a variety of challenging materials including Junior Great Books, novels, Problem Solver, and our wiki. I work with teachers to plan each student's Advanced Learning Plan every year. It is wonderful to have great teamwork supporting our young students!
