 Sara Finney

I am proud to be a Colorado native! I grew up in Golden and went to Mullen High School. I graduated from Metro State College with a Bachelor’s in Math Education and a minor in Elementary Education. Last year I taught Eighth Grade Math for Denver Public Schools, but soon realized that I really belonged in an elementary classroom. In my spare time I play volleyball and enjoy reading. I am very excited to get the opportunity to teach Fifth Grade at Ralph Moody this year!

I have worked at Moody since 1999.  I moved here in 1999 from Kansas City, Missouri. I received my masters in Curriculum and Technology in 2001. I enjoy teaching science and serve on the district science council. I love setting up and running the Annual Moody Science Fair, it is fun to observe students of all ages enjoying the wonder of science.

I believe that each child has something to offer my classroom and society. Through a balance of group and individual work the students can feel good about and shine in their area of strength. I integrate technology in my curriculum as often as I can because it allows the students to be comfortable with the challenges that they face in the future.

In my spare time I enjoy crafts such as sewing and scrap booking. Spending time with family and friends has become a priority since the birth of our daughter. She has brought a lot of laughter and happiness into our lives.

I am very excited to join Ralph Moody Elementary and teach fifth grade! I have been a third grade teacher the past two years at Ames Elementary. I completed my Masters Degree in conflict resolution from the University of Denver in 2001. I received a Bachelor’s of Science in psychology and administration of justice from Rutgers University. Before I became a teacher, I was a Children’s Librarian at the Bemis Public Library in Littleton.

When I am not teaching I love spending time with my husband and our twin boys. I love to read, bargain shop, and spend time with family.

I am excited to share my love of children’s literature with the fifth graders. I love to learn and am always working towards creating a community where students share my love of learning. It is a privilege to be a part of the Ralph Moody community!
